The Great Pyrenees, also known as the pyrenean mountain dog, is a very large animal with a solid muscular body. The dogs are generaly solid white, or white with badger markings of wolf-gray , black or tan markings. They are an elegant gentle giant. with the ability to sense danger, therefore they are able to determine the trustworthiness of their encounters. They have a strong guarding instinct and will protect their loved ones, making them popular with children, and typically getting along with other animals when raised with them.The great pyrenees originated in the pyrenees mountains of europe which form the border between France and Spain. They were developed by the Basque people to protect their flocks from predation by bears and wolves. The dogs have been used for this purpose for over a thousand years. Even today, pyrenees are often used to guard sheep and other livestock. This makes for a wonderful guard dog for your family as well. They are calm and would never attack unless provoked. However, they can be very intimidating due to their size....

The great pyrenees have a special place in my heart. They love their charge, bringing the goats to the barns at night. They are very obedient and intelligent animals, wanting to please their master. Here on our Tennessee farm, located in middle Tennessee, our dogs are working dogs, they tend the goats daily just as their ancestors did in France. Our pups are farm raised with a variety of animals all or dogs are registered with the Continental Kennel Club (CKC).
